Style Magazine – Win a double pass to preview performance of The Queensland Theatre Company’s Australia Day

Win a double pass to the preview performance of The Queensland Theatre Company’s Australia Day on Saturday January 25.

Celebrate Australia day in true Australian spirit and style with a clever comical performance brought to you by the Queensland Theatre Company. QTC’s Season 2014 opens in January with a stubbie and snags on the ‘barbie. Australia Day by Jonathan Biggins (the brains behind Sydney Theatre Company’s satirical institution The Wharf Revue) takes place in a typical Aussie country town, Coriole. The story centres around six eccentric community leaders who hold the baffling responsibility of putting together the ultimate Aussie celebration.

See theatre star Andrea Moor in her Playhouse directorial debut presenting the witty story tackling the changing face of Australian society. Australia Day boasts an all-star cast and leading Queensland actor, Paul Bishop. Bishop leads the cast and the small town as Mayor Brian Harrigan. The role hits comfortably close to home for Bishop, as offstage he is Redlands City Councilor in Brisbane. Joined by leading actors Chris Betts, Louise Brehmer, Barbara Lowin, Bryan Probets fresh from the acclaimed Design of Living and Lap Phan, the satire is one of five Australian productions of the Company’s 2014 season.

The show presents the difficulty in coming to consensus of what it means to be Australian, with small town social culture, politics and biting wit. Debating minute details of the national day and our national identity, Australia Day promises to sizzle your ‘barbie… or wok!

The production will be running January 25 to February 16, at Playhouse, QPAC.
