Redland City Bulletin – Win Tickets To Island Vibe Festival (prize valued at $500)

North Stradbroke Island’s most soulful boutique music, arts and eco event is returning for the 12th year to Home Beach at Point Lookout, Minjerribah from October 26 to 29.

Renowned for its world class line up of reggae, soul, electronic bass and indigenous culture, Island Vibe Fesitval is delighted to share its first line-up release.

From Bristol UK, is MC junglist extraordinaire Eva Lazarus and DJ Chris Munky who blaze a mixture of reggae, hip hop, dancehall and drum and bass. Joining them are UK dancehall lord Parly B and the 4’20 Sound, Berlin’s funk fusion king – JStar, and NZ’s reggae heavyweights Dub Terminator and Dubsonic.

Perennial festival favourites OKA will be back with its thunderous blend of didjeridu powered dance grooves alongside the 10-piece funk brass behemoth that is Bullhorn, reggae lords Kingfisha, the drum fueled insanity that is The Bird, Triple J hip hop prankster chart toppers Butterfingers and the all star collective The New Buzz (featuring members of the Beautiful Girls, Dubmarine and Upsteppers). West End’s songbird Ofa Fanaika will also be bringing her Church on Sunday collective.

On the local front be treated to timeless ceremony and dance with songman Buangan and the Yulu Burri Ba Dancers and catch a ringside seat to watch the ascent to stardom of local MC Sachem and his hip hop ensemble 47.

This year’s festival has expanded to four days, to allow for more workshops, and a cabaret and film and talks segment. As ever, its thrust to host a green festival, making a big push on sustainability.

Locals on the line-up include the Stradbroke Island Singers, Yulu-Buri-Ba dancers, Craig “Tappy” Tapp (sand art), Buangan (Joshua Walker), and MC Sachem with his hip hop ensemble 47. The festival also supports the Minjerribah Artists Alliance Project, which will result in collaborative performances at the opening and closing ceremonies.
