My most loved Christmas memory + a Giveaway

I couldn’t have been any older than 6 or 7 but I have a very clear memory of my most favourite Christmas ever. As a child it was my favourite because we received more toys than we could’ve ever dreamed of and as an adult, its a memory that makes me believe Christmas time is truly a magical time of year for both adults and children.

I obviously believed in Santa Claus at this time but I overhead my Mum saying to Dad “I don’t know what we’re going to get the girls for Christmas – we don’t have very much money – I’m going to the store to pick up a colouring book and some pencils to put under the Christmas tree”. Now I didn’t really know what all of that meant so I just minded my own business and thought how much I like colouring books and pencils.

In those days (back in the 60’s) there were no big shopping malls and we had everything we needed just around the corner. There was a grocery store, a butcher, bakery, fruit shop, post office, pharmacy, hairdresser. I can vividly remember the grocery store holding a Christmas raffle and the first prize was a GIGANTIC Christmas stocking. It was definitely from floor to ceiling height and chocked full of toys. I used to look at it in awe thinking how much fun it would be to win that, not that I really even knew about raffles or winning things.

Anyway, Mum returned from getting what she needed and the man from the grocery store pulled up in his truck at the same time. It was late in the day on Christmas eve. He had just informed Mum that she had in fact won the huge Christmas stocking! It really was like being a kid in a candy store that Christmas. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. Not so much for the amount of toys we had but for the magic that was bestowed upon my family. I don’t ever recall a bad Christmas. Every Christmas memory I have is a good one but this is a stand out. Now that I have children, I’m creating those same magical memories for them and they have both said that this is the best Christmas they’ve ever had. I hope they continue.
