Yen Magazine – WIN A PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE AT MEGAN MORTON’S THE SCHOOL

Squat low, stretch out your arms till they nearly dislocate, then inspector gadget your neck to a 90-degree angle, move out of your own shadow, and try not to pass wind. Nope, it’s not the yoga class from hell, it’s all the awkward positions you’ll adopt to get just the right photo – hooray! Getting the perfect snap is the daily mission of a huge amount of people, whether they’re budding photographers, passionate instagramers, or just your average joe at the movies trying to create an optical illusion selfie with the Hercules poster so it looks like you’re kissing Dwayne Johnson’s bicep.

Our photo issue is on the newsstand now (look for London Grammar on the cover), so in honour of that Megan Morton is giving one Yen reader the chance to win free enrolment into a course at The School (valued at $330). The class is Photography 101 with the mega-talented Brooke Holm, who will be combining our two great loves: interiors and photography. Holm is going to teach you how to create and make beautiful still life moments at home, going through the A to Z of choosing the perfect spot to shoot, backdrops and lighting, how to use your SLR camera and lenses, making the most of the natural light available to you, composition and framing your room shot for vignettes and wide shots, and post production tips and workflow.

All you need to bring is your SLR camera – all other materials plus a light lunch are on the house. The course is being held in Melbourne on Saturday 6 Sept and in Sydney on Saturday 29 Nov, head here for all the details.

To win, simply tell us in 25 words or less: ‘What is your favourite thing to photograph and why?’ – and remember, you need to have an SLR camera or be able to borrow one for the day to take part in this course.
